About the Author
Julie U. Brown is the author of Angry Housewife Fights Tyranny, a snarky response to the Trump Administration, Little Rocks, a collection of poetry, and Church Chat, An Awkward Spiritual Journey, irreverent questions of God, religion, and meaning in the universe.
Her work has been published in The Arnazella, Pack and Paddle, The Journal American, and Real Change, among others, but most of these are no longer in publication.
Brown lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, son, dog, and two cats who wake her up in the middle of the night in case she'll give them snacks.
Bio
I am that kid
who talked too much,
who no one
took seriously,
who exaggerated,
who never told
outright lies,
did I?
I fell into stories,
drunk and funny.
I told dirty jokes once,
medicated,
on an operating table,
ones that required
three beers, at least.
I needed for someone
to listen.
I needed to write.
I needed to calm
my soul
with stories,
with stories
that would carry me along,
down the swift river,
home.
